Unable to interest the major portal players of the day, Umang Bagla and Varun Chatterji decided to make a go of it on their own. All they needed was a little cash to move out of the dorm — and to pay off the credit cards they had maxed out buying a terabyte of memory. So they wrote up a business plan, put their plans on hold, and ventured Lucknowcity.com on 02nd September 1998. The love affair between Lucknowcity and the technology community — engineers, programmers, webmasters, and early adopters of all shapes and sizes — went back to the days when word-of-mouth from tech-savvy users spread the reputation far beyond Lucknow.
Lucknowcity.com soon became popular among Lucknowites and gained top rankings in all major search engines including Google, MSN, Yahoo & Rediff. With the official launch of new features such as Yellow Pages, Classifieds, Matrimonial, etc., this site was officially launched by the then District Magistrate of Lucknow, Shri Navneet Sehgal.
Realising the booming hotel industry and Lucknow getting the focus of an upcoming METRO. Lucknowcity.com decided to venture into its own City Information magazine which initially would be published Quarterly and be distributed i all the 5-star, 4-star and select 3-star hotels across lucknow and in high traffic areas such as supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and at all up-market retail outlets.
On 7th October 2006, Lucknowcity.com also launched its city information magazine. The first copy of the magazine was launched by Mrs. Zohra Chatterji ( Principal Secretary – Information Techology, Govenment of Uttar Pradesh ) in presence of other esteemed guests at M. B. Club, Lucknow. Realising the importance of the booming hotel industry and Lucknow getting the focus of an upcoming METRO, Lucknowcity.com decided to venture into its own City Magazine.
