Geography

The Gomti River, a tributary of the Ganges River is otherwise known as Gumti or Gomti. It is Lucknow’s prime geographical feature that flows across the city, dividing the city into Trans-Gomti and Cis-Gomti regions. Being located in the midst of the Indus-Gangetic Plain, the city is flocked with several rural towns and villages. Furthermore, the orchard town of Malihabad, Kakori, Mohanlal ganj, Gosainganj, Chinhat, and Itaunja adds to the economic strength of the city. At every direction, that is, NSEW, the city is surrounded with prolific districts, like, Barabanki District in the east, Unnao District in the west. In addition to it, Sitapur and Hardoi Districts are situated in the northern direction and Raebareli District, to its south.
 

Lucknow, located in the seismic zone III witnesses sub tropical climate. Lucknow weather is quite warm and subtropical with most of the rainfall taking place throughout the monsoon season. Lucknow witnesses three seasons, summer (March to mid June), rainy (mid June to September) and winter (October to February). Summer climate observes average daytime temperature of 35oC that may at times creep over 40oC in May. In winter, temperature can drop down to 4

 

Summer

All through summer season, from April till June, with average temperature of 39oC, the city remains hot and humid. May is regarded as the hottest month of the year, with more than 40oC temperature, whereas April remains the sunniest month with 8 hours of sunshine/day. Throughout these summer months, Lucknow gets very poor level of precipitation.

 

Rainy

From Mid June till early October, the city witnesses rainy season. With 313mm of rainfall, August is recognized as year’s wettest month. Witnessing a temperature fall of 25oC, the season receives plentiful rainfall. While the average high stands at 32OC.

 

Winter

The best season to visit Lucknow is winter season that lies from December till February. Throughout this period, the average high falls radically and stands at 23°C whereas the low vary between 7-12°C. The coldest month of the year is January, with temperature ranging between 3-6oC. Throughout this duration, the city receives very less rainfall that makes day quite pleasing.
